The University of Miami Alumni Association welcomed 3,800 new alumni to its base of over 178,000 alumni across the globe. Alumni returned to campus to serve as commencement speakers and alumni marshals for ceremonies that celebrated both undergraduate and graduate degrees. President of the University of Miami Alumni Association, Brenda Yester Baty, B.B.A. ’90, Lissette Gonzalez, B.A.M. ’01, John Elias Calles, A.B. ’89, J.D. ’92, and Gregory M. Cesarano, JD '76, Past President, University of Miami Alumni Association offered welcome remarks on behalf of the alumni association to graduates who will now embark on their new journeys, post UM.
The Spring celebration of the 2017 Commencement ceremony took place May 10-12, featuring six extraordinary individuals as honorary degree recipients and speakers, sharing insight and inspiration with the newest UM graduates. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine held the first ceremony, kicking off Spring commencement week.
In grand Hurricane tradition, the University of Miami Alumni Association hosted various events throughout the week to mark the achievements of the newest UM graduates including a Graduating Legacy Reception, Class Ring ceremony, a Graduating International Student Celebration, a Lavender Celebration for LGBTQA graduates, and other exciting U traditions.

UM Ring Ceremony
University of Miami graduates celebrated their accomplishments in the annual Ring Ceremony on April 19th, a traditional gathering held by the UM Alumni Association at the Newman Alumni Center.
