On any given day, Samantha Feanny, associate vice president and deputy chief Human Resources officer for UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine, is reminded of the impact that University of Miami faculty and staff members have on the greater Miami community. As an alumna of University of Miami School of Law, Feanny decided to pursue a career in Human Resources because of an undeniable desire to help others. While her people-first mentality continues to drive employee engagement and success at UHealth and the Miller School, she also keeps a fresh perspective on new ways to make a difference as a servant leader. This year, as the United Way Miami Ambassador for TeamUM on the Medical Campus, she is working to broaden her impact and to encourage her colleagues to take part.

“It has always been important to me to be part of an organization that gives back,” said Feanny. “The University’s partnership with United Way Miami provides demonstrated and measurable support to many communities, and I’m honored to represent the health system during this year’s campaign.”

As part of her role with HR, Feanny focuses on the full life cycle of the employee—from onboarding through retirement—and understands the importance of feeling supported at various stages of career growth and personal life.

“The opportunity to serve this year’s campaign is not one that I take lightly,” she said. “I have witnessed times where United Way Miami has provided support to employees and their families in various ways, and I am forever grateful for their services to our community.”

Through the support of her colleagues, Feanny is working toward a campaign goal of 100 percent TeamUM participation. “Any donation amount counts toward our goal, and no contribution is too small,” she pointed out. “Our faculty and staff members are some of the most compassionate and caring people I know, and their support continues to be invaluable to the success of United Way.”

Feanny noted that one of the unexpected bonuses of her role as an ambassador has been the opportunity to connect with colleagues regarding their passions for the University and the communities they serve. “There are so many employees—Faculty Council members, senior administrative officers, unit leaders, and front-line employees—who have stepped up to take part in supporting United Way.  Their enthusiasm to help others is unrivaled, and working together has been the highlight of my experience.”
