SONHS welcomes new and returning students and families to New Student and Parent Orientation

Each year at the SONHS, the orientation events serve as a critical launching point to get both new and returning students and their families excited about the upcoming academic semester, as well as involved in campus activities and aware of UM resources. In addition to helping students feel connected and informed before the start of the semester, a key aim of the SONHS orientation activities is to establish partnerships with parents, who play an important role in students’ success.

Activities kicked off on Thursday morning with the Academic Dean’s Meeting for Parents, during which Dr. Cindy Munro, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Studies, welcomed students and their families and offered her and her faculty’s solid support in helping the aspiring healthcare professionals achieve their academic and professional goals. Parents were treated to tours of the Simulation Hospital right behind the main nursing school building – a “sneak peek” in advance of the 5-story, 41,000 square-foot facility’s dedication and opening on September 29th. The students enrolled at SONHS this fall semester will be the first to use this innovative resource.

On Friday, Undergraduate Orientation provided students with introductions to Office of Student Services staff members, as well as an overview of the upcoming academic year and school and campus resources, including the school’s numerous student organizations.

The SONHS faculty and staff and the entire UM community are excited our students are here and ready to support them as they pursue their healthcare education. GO CANES!
