With artful henna tattoos, tasty samosas and sweet coconut milk, International Week 2014 opened Monday with alluring tastes and sounds of Asia, and will continue on the UC Patio all week, allowing anyone who happens by to “Discover the Unknown—Hidden Treasures from Around the World.”

Sponsored by the Council of International Students and Organizations (COISO), a cultural smorgasbord of daily activities will take place at the University of Miami Coral Gables campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and evening shows from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Monday’s Asia night gives way to the Pacific islands on Tuesday, when students will have the chance to make flower leis, eat traditional sweets of malasadas and turon, and dance limbo with Lilo & Stitch.

Wednesday will feature the mystery of Africa and the Caribbean, with yummy patties, rhythmic drums and dancing with decorative waist beads; Thursday will spotlight the magic of the Middle East, with belly dancing and delicious hummus and falafel.

The week’s festivities conclude Friday with the World of Feast, featuring Latin America and European cuisine, such as chicken croquettes and Swiss petit cake.

Is it the people? Houses? Fields? The Weather?
Is it the streets? Is it these things together?
Nothing here ever changes, till it does.
