University of Miami students Thursday remembered victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the National Day of Service and Remembrance with an evening vigil and a day-long event coordinated by the Butler Center for Service and Leadership.

Members of Alpha Delta Pi, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Zeta Tau Alpha set up on the Rock in the center of the Coral Gables campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alpha Delta Pi sold 9/11 awareness ribbons; Zeta Tau Alpha collected toiletries and other personal items for the Miami VA Healthcare System; and National Pan-Hellenic Council displayed a banner that members of the community signed with heartfelt thoughts on the attacks and those affected.

A candlelight vigil organized by the Veteran Students Organization, originally scheduled to be held on the Rock, was moved inside to the Whitten University Center Lower Lounge due to inclement weather. The Division of Student Affairs, ’Canes Care for ’Canes, Biscaydence, ROTC, and the Coral Gables Fire Department all were present at the vigil.
