In a program supported by the Miller School of Medicine's Medical Alumni Association, new medical students each receive a stethoscope when they begin medical school.

Only hours into her orientation at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Isabella Ferre was thrilled to receive one of the most recognized symbols of the medical profession.

The first-year medical student took the brand-new stethoscope out of the box that sat before her, and reflected on what it meant to wear the iconic medical device.

“It symbolizes all of the hard work that we, as a class, put in to getting into medical school,” Ferre said. “So it is a sense of accomplishment, but also a sense of duty, because this is the epitome of being a doctor.”

The stethoscope was provided by the School’s Medical Alumni Association through its “Stethoscopes for Students” initiative.
