Emergency notification test slated for Thursday

The Office of Emergency Management will conduct a test on Thursday, Oct. 15, which will include text messages, phone calls, and other notifications.

The Office of Emergency Management will conduct a full system test of the Emergency Notification Network between 12:15 to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. This brief federally required test will include the activation of the following communication methods. 

  • SMS text messages to cellphones
  • Voice calls to cellphones
  • Email
  • Emergency Information Hotline (1-800-227-0354)
  • University of Miami website banners
  • Emergency preparedness website: www.prepare.miami.edu
  • Emergency preparedness social media: com/UMiamiENN and twitter.com/UMiamiENN
  • IP Telephone Broadcast
    • Gables and Marine Campuses—screen text and public address via speakerphones
    • Medical Campus—screen text only
  • Campus cable TV (Coral Gables and Medical Campuses only)
  • Digital signage (select Coral Gables Campus buildings)
  • Outdoor public address speakers covering the following campus areas:
    • Coral Gables Campus—Student Center Complex patio and Lake Osceola
    • Coral Gables Campus—Foote University Green and Feldenkries Plaza
    • Marine Campus—exterior areas

The test messages will last approximately one minute and will all clearly state, “This is a test of the University of Miami Emergency Notification Network. This is only a test. No further action is required.”
