At Spring Commencement, as Devang Desai, B.A. ’97, J.D. ’03, president of the University of Miami Alumni Association, welcomed the Class of 2022 to life after graduation, he encouraged graduates to “dream a little bigger and become better versions of yourselves.”
Desai also reminded these newly minted alumni that no matter where they live, the alumni association is here to help and support them, through a comprehensive menu of alumni programs, benefits, and networking opportunities.
Here are the highlights:
’Canes Communities are among the best, easiest way for alumni to tap into the University of Miami network. With 40 regional ’Canes Communities around the U.S. plus another six in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, alumni have ample scope to connect with each other and to the University through a variety of programs and events.
Affinity Groups enable alumni to connect with others who share similar interests and affinities, and with campus groups with which they may have been involved while students. Active groups include the Band of the Hour Association, the Black Alumni Society, the Golden Ibis Society, and LGBTQ ’Canes.
Alumni Benefits run the gamut from discounts on ’Cane apparel and campus amenities to exclusive alumni pricing for Hurricane football and basketball tickets, plus specialty University of Miami license plates (the latter available to residents of Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and North Carolina).
Lifelong Learning resources include a robust selection of free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), developed in partnership with the University’s Division of Continuing and International Education; access to the ULearn Digital Library with its webinars, podcasts, lecture series, and other virtual events; and full access to the Richter Library, among many other resources.
Online Services available to alumni include Custom Career Content, an all-in-one virtual career platform where alumni can access a wide range of career planning tools and resources, the UMiami App, and much more.
