Professor Doan's talk is titled "The Demise of Queer Space? The Role of Planning in Atlanta's LGBT Spaces." She will explore the evolution og LGBTQ spaces in Atlanta, with a special focus on the Midtown area. Since the 1970s, Midtown has been the most prominent gay neighborhood in Georgia and possibly the Southeast. This area has experienced strong gentrification pressures over the past 20 years, and Doan will assert that urban planners and city officials have been complicit in enabling the redevelopment of this area. She will explore the consequences of this situation for LGBTQ spaces in the Atlanta area and elsewhere.
