During its annual conference, the Business Association of Latin American Studies (BALAS) recognized Professor Joseph Ganitsky for his exemplary dedication and constant contribution to the advancement of business academia in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The virtual conference ended with Ganitsky’s induction as a BALAS Fellow. BALAS Fellows are scholars whose longstanding commitment to research, teaching and service to Latin America and to BALAS merit special recognition.

Accepting the recognition, he emphasized the importance of joining forces in elevating topics and scholarship focused on business in Latin America. Characteristically optimistic, he spoke of finding opportunities for growth and innovation in times of adversity and recalled the progress made in the richly diverse region.

“I’ve made well over a hundred friends in the BALAS community where we share dreams and aspirations for excellence in Latin American business and academia,” said Ganitsky.

Ganitsky is a practicing professor of management, academic director of the Master’s in International Business, and Co-Chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Initiative Advisory Board (LACI) at Miami Herbert Business School. He is also a founding member and longtime supporter of BALAS.

Founded in 1989, BALAS is the first academic association focused exclusively on business and economics in Latin America and the Caribbean aimed to foster education, encourage research, and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of Latin American issues that affect the business environment of both domestic and transnational enterprises.
