Finalist for Top Global Innovations in Construction and Infrastructure

The University of Miami through a joint partnership with Arkema in France; the National Cooperative Highway Research Group (NCHRP) in the United States; and Sireg Group in Italy was named one of 3 finalists of the JEC Innovation Awards in the “Construction & Infrastructure” category for Bendable TP Composite Reinforcements for Concrete. These readily bendable thermoplastic composite bar and cable for reinforced and prestressed concrete revolutionize the durability of construction. The winner will be announced at JEC World 2019 exhibition on March 13, in Paris Nord Villepinte, France

“We’re delighted and honored to have been named a finalist in this year’s JEC Innovation Award. One of the main concerns of the construction sector worldwide is the aging and corrosion of infrastructure,” said Antonio Nanni, a professor and chair of the College’s Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering. “The replacement of steel reinforcement and pre-stressing cables, creating structures that are stronger, lighter, cost-effective and, most importantly, corrosion-free – greatly reduces the need for costly maintenance of residential, commercial, industrial and civil infrastructures. It doesn’t just repair degraded structures; it actually makes them stronger, last longer and safer!”

JEC Innovation Awards celebrate the fruitful cooperation between players of the composite community. For the past 15 years, the JEC Innovation Awards have brought in 1,800 companies worldwide. More than 175 companies and 433 partners have been rewarded for the excellence of their composite innovations. The Awards reward composites champions, based on criteria such as partner involvement in the value chain, technicality or commercial applications of innovations. The “Composites Champions” are chosen for their innovations that will change the future of building and construction.

“The JEC Innovation Awards program is emblematic and recognizes pioneers in composite innovation.” analyses Franck Glowacz, innovation content leader at JEC Group. “Due to the very high level of the nominees, the JEC Innovation Awards ceremony should be very rich!”
