Prannoy Suraneni speaking at the third International Conference on the Application of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) and Other New Admixtures Towards Smart Concrete.

Congratulations to Prannoy Suraneni (ACCESS Lab), assistant professor in the College of Engineering’s (CoE) Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAE), who was recently selected to attend the third International Conference on the Application of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) and Other New Admixtures Towards Smart Concrete as an American Concrete Institute (ACI) Ambassador Speaker.

Held every four to five years, the conference brings together the research community in the field of SAP and other modern admixtures to share knowledge and ideas about the uses of such material to produce better concrete. The results from this conference are collected as a proceeding that contains the state of the art of research in this field.

During the conference, Suraneni delivered a research presentation discussing the use of SAP to reduce drying and autogenous shrinkage in alkali activated slag-fly ash mixtures and potential limitations of using SAP for this purpose. The presentation is titled, “Internal curing using superabsorbent polymers for alkali activated slag-fly ash mixtures.”

The ACI Ambassador is a new program by the American Concrete Institute through which selected members act as ACI Ambassadors for ACI partners, ACI chapters and other technical communities for international conferences. The program is administered by the ACI International Advisory Committee and is designed to develop a mutually beneficial relationship between ACI and partners through information gathered at these conferences.

The ACI is the premier organization for the advancement of concrete technology and development of student and professional engineers working on concrete. Sustaining nearly 20,000 members spanning several countries, ACI has continued to drive its mission of sharing best practices in concrete technology.
