Three graduate students from the University of Miami's School of Education and Human Development made a strong showing at the UM Graduate + Postdoctoral Research Symposium, each presenting original research in counseling psychology and mental health.

Jonathan and Camryn earned first place in the poster presentation competition and received an invitation to present at the Conference of Florida Graduate Schools.

The three students conduct their research through the FIRE Lab, which stands for Flourishing, Identities, Resilience, and Empowerment, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Samuel Skidmore in the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies. The lab's focus reflects a growing emphasis in the field on strengths-based, identity-affirming approaches to mental health and counseling.

Their success spotlights the student-driven scholarship happening within UM's counseling programs, where emerging clinicians and researchers are tackling questions around human flourishing and resilience.
