$1 million donation supports Miami Herbert student scholarships

The gift will be used to create the Miami Herbert Asian Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Students enrolled in the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School will have a new scholarship available to them this spring thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.
The charitable donation establishes the Miami Herbert Asian Endowed Scholarship Fund for up to four full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Miami Herbert who demonstrate an interest in business in Asia or Southeast Asia.
John Quelch, dean of Miami Herbert, expressed his appreciation for this substantial gift and explained the long-lasting impact that it will have on current and future students.
“We are extremely grateful for this gift and the transformational impact it will have on our students,” he said. “The importance of scholarships in helping Miami Herbert to sustain a highly talented and diverse student body cannot be overstated. Our hope is that this generous donation will inspire others to do the same so that we can continue to provide more students access to our exemplary academic programs and world-class faculty.”
As an endowed scholarship, the $1 million gift becomes part of the University’s $1.1 billion endowment. Each year, a portion of the gift’s interest will be awarded to students in perpetuity and the $1 million is left untouched. Also, thanks to the generosity of Allan Herbert and his late wife Patti, the Miami Herbert Asian Endowed Scholarship Fund qualifies for the Herbert Challenge Scholarship Endowment Gift Match, allowing students to access the scholarship as early as this spring while the endowment is invested.
The scholarships are merit-based and renewable as long as students remain in good academic standing.
Students who wish to apply for the scholarship will be required to submit an essay as part of the application process.
