Alumna Sandra Lopez honored with Distinguished Alumnae Award, Opening Night Gala, Festival of Miami.
Soprano Sandra Lopez, an alumna of the University of Miami Frost School of Music and the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, was honored as a recipient of the Frost Distinguished Alumnae Award on the evening of Friday, October 8, 2010. Lopez was the featured artist with the Frost Symphony Orchestra and Frost Chorale for the Opening Night Gala of Festival Miami, 2010. Lopez’ sparkling performance included Poulenc’s Gloria and Strauss’ Four Last Songs.

Lopez has received accolades from vocal competitions such as Palm Beach Opera Competition, the McAllister Awards, and George London Foundation. In 1998 she was the Grand Prize winner in the College Division of the Florida Grand Opera Competition. Lopez appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as Catherine in the Metropolitan premier of Tobias Picker’s opera A View from the Bridge, and has performed Tosca, Cio Cio San, Mimi, Nedda, Tatiana, Marguerite, Micaela, Violetta and Lauretta with companies that include Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Carolina, Nashville Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Berkshire Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, PORT Opera, Opera North (USA), and Opera de Oviedo, among others.
