Composer and Frost School of Music Professor Thomas Sleeper Premieres New Composition “Parallax”

Thomas Sleeper, Director of Orchestral Studies and Conductor of the Frost Symphony Orchestra, premiered "Parallax," a new work for euphonium and wind ensemble.

Director of Orchestral Studies at the Frost School of Music, Professor Thomas Sleeper premiered “Parallax,” a new work for euphonium and wind ensemble in one movement, on September 17, 2011 with the Wichita Winds Professional Band. Frost alumnus Timothy Shade performed as euphonium soloist, and Frost School’s director of bands Gary Green conducted the premiere performance.

Sleeper’s compositions have been performed and broadcast throughout the USA, and in Europe, Asia and South America. Phill O'Neill, trumpet, will give the Australian premiere of Sleeper’s Concerto for Trumpet on October 26 with the Australian Army Band Sydney. Sleeper's latest CD, featuring his Symphony No. 1, Xenia and Six Arias for Cello was featured on Radio Arts Indonesia in July (Albany Records).

“Hauntingly Mysterious”, “Richly Lyrical”, “Soaring Melodies” are all phrases used to describe the music of Thomas M. Sleeper.

Hailed by the Miami Herald “as a conductor of persuasive fluency and fiery conviction,” Sleeper enjoys an active dual career as composer and conductor. His output includes six operas, seven concerti, two symphonies, four orchestral song cycles, works for chorus with orchestra, three string quartets and numerous other vocal and instrumental chamber works.
