Frost-built guitarist, Douglas Lora, M.M. ’06, returned to the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami to perform at the prestigious 2019 Guitar Foundation of America’s (GFA) International Convention and Competition. The event, which was held from June 17 through June 22, 2019, brought a national audience of 600. Lora performed on Thursday, June 20th.

Douglas Lora was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Brazil where he studied guitar from an early age. He is a member of the Brasil Guitar Duo, a 2006 winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, hailed by Classical Guitar magazine for their “maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity.”

In commenting on being a Frost alumnus, Lora stated: "Studying at Frost was an amazing experience.  I was very privileged to be at a school that really believed in me; and in fact sponsored the Brasil Guitar Duo to attend the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 2006, which we won!"

Lora credits studying with the faculty of Frost’s Guitar and Jazz Composition programs and then colleague Rafael Padron among the many highlights which prepared him for his future career. Rafael Padron is now Program Director of Classical Guitar at the school and along with Dr. Federico Musgrove Stetson, also an esteemed member of the guitar program faculty hosted the GFA convention.
