Dean Patricia Sanchez Abril was recently selected by Mosaic Miami as a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Silver Medallion Humanitarian Award. The award, to be presented at the organization’s annual Humanitarian Dinner on May 17 at the University of Miami campus, recognizes Abril’s outstanding leadership and her tireless advocacy for justice within the South Florida community. Since assuming leadership of the law school in April 2024, she has embraced a bold vision to empower students, strengthen community ties, and advance innovation.
Mosaic Miami awards the Silver Medallion to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to the organization’s mission of building bridges and dismantling bias. For Abril, this honor highlights her lifelong dedication to justice and her impact across both legal and academic spheres. As an innovative scholar in the emerging field of law and AI, her research—published in leading journals such as the Yale Journal of Law & Technology—continues to shape national discourse.
Under her leadership, Miami Law has achieved measurable and historic progress. The Fall 2025 incoming class is the most highly credentialed incoming class in the school’s history, and the Class of 2024 achieved a record‑breaking 92% employment rate. She has also propelled the Miami Law & AI (MiLA) Lab into national prominence. The lab’s educational tool, ClassInsight, was recognized as a finalist for the 2025 AIREA International Competition on Artificial Intelligence in Education.
Beyond academic accomplishments, Abril has prioritized strengthening student support and community engagement. One of her signature initiatives, the Mentoring Pods initiative, connects first‑year and upper‑level students with alumni mentors, fostering a sense of belonging, guidance, and professional growth. This effort has deepened connections across generations of Miami Law students and alumni.
The Mosaic Miami Humanitarian Dinner is one of the city’s hallmark events, drawing influential leaders to celebrate individuals who help transform Miami’s diverse “mosaic” into a cohesive and supportive community. By receiving the Silver Medallion, Abril joins an esteemed group of leaders recognized for their service, vision, and unwavering commitment to humanity.
