The University of Miami School of Law continues to demonstrate national strength across key areas of legal education with multiple programs ranking high in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report specialty rankings.
Miami Law earned high marks in business/corporate law, contracts/commercial law, tax, international law, environmental law, dispute resolution, and clinical training—a reflection of the school’s depth, faculty expertise, and emphasis on experiential learning. Of the thirteen specialty areas evaluated, ten Miami Law programs improved year-over-year, underscoring broad and sustained academic momentum.
The U.S. News specialty rankings are based exclusively on peer assessment surveys, in which faculty teaching in each subject area at ABA-accredited law schools evaluate the quality of programs nationwide.
Business-Focused Programs: Nationally Recognized Strength
Miami Law continues to distinguish itself in business law. In the 2026 rankings, the school rose seven spots in Business/Corporate Law to #34 and achieved an even stronger showing in Contracts/Commercial Law at #28. The law school also ranked #27 in Tax Law, further solidifying its position as a leader in transactional and financial legal training.
With more than 100 courses and experiential opportunities in business and commercial law, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersection of law and business. The school’s robust transactional law program equips graduates with practical skills in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts—providing training that extends well beyond traditional litigation-focused instruction.
Hands-on learning is a cornerstone of the program, with students gaining real-world experience through the Investor Rights, Bankruptcy, and Startup Clinics, among others.
#19 in Clinical Training and Experiential Learning at the Core
Experiential education is central to Miami Law’s mission to prepare students for modern legal practice, and that commitment is reflected in the school’s #19 national ranking in Clinical Training.
Miami Law offers nine clinics, with 200 students participating annually in direct client representation. The clinics span a wide range of practice areas, including bankruptcy; children and youth; immigration; health rights; human rights; startup law; innocence; environmental justice; and investor rights.
A distinguishing feature of Miami Law’s clinical program is that clinics are taught primarily by full-time faculty, ensuring close supervision, academic rigor, and meaningful mentorship as students develop practice-ready skills.
The school also earned a #47 ranking in Dispute Resolution, adding to a growing list of nationally recognized strengths in experiential education.
International and Environmental Law: Global Reach and Interdisciplinary Impact

The school ranked #31 in International Law, reflecting its seventy-year history of engagement in international and comparative legal education and the work of more than twenty faculty members who teach or do research in the field. With more than 100 international law-related courses and seven specialized graduate and concentration programs, students benefit from a curriculum that reflects the interdisciplinary and global nature of today’s legal challenges.
The school also ranked #32 in Environmental Law, supported by a comprehensive Environmental Law Program and interdisciplinary offerings with other University of Miami graduate programs that provide a unique intersectionality in marine affairs, land use, architecture, and business.
