University awarded for commitment to supplier diversity

At the Florida State Minority Supplier Development Council (FSMSDC) Business Impact Awards last month, the University of Miami was named “Local Corporation of the Year.”

The award recognizes the University’s commitment to minority purchasing, technical and managerial assistance, and support of Minority Business Enterprise (MBEs) programs. Since July 2020, the University’s Supplier Diversity Program has been even more proactive in its mission to grow minority businesses and promote economic inclusion to support diverse and underutilized suppliers.

“The University of Miami is honored to be the recipient of the Florida State Minority Supplier Development Council Local Corporation of the Year award, presented at the 48th Annual Business Impact Awards. This is quite a recognition for our organization’s supplier diversity program and honors the excellent work we have done in support of economic inclusion and the growth and success of minority-owned businesses in our local community,” said Lindsay Collazo, director of supplier diversity, who was also nominated for FSMSDC Advocate of the Year. “I’d like to offer my sincerest appreciation to all our internal stakeholders and customers at the University, Academic Purchasing, and UHealth Supply Chain teams without whom this achievement would have been possible. The commitment across the organization has directly contributed to the success of this program and I look forward to continuing this work in support of minority-owned businesses.”

Velma Davis, manager of value analysis, was nominated for Buyer of the Year.
