The University of Miami Business School is expanding its research enterprise with the addition of 10 new tenure-track faculty members whose expertise spans artificial intelligence, finance, economics, healthcare, law, management, marketing and business analytics.
“Welcoming 10 new tenure-track faculty in a single year is a landmark investment in expanding our faculty to lead in AI, advance interdisciplinary research and create personalized pathways to lifelong career success for our students,” said Paul A. Pavlou, dean of the business school. “These exceptional scholars will accelerate our Moonshot ambition to become a Top 20 business school and help us set the standard for ‘The Way Business School Should Be.’”
The new faculty join the business school from leading institutions including Columbia University, Emory University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Los Angeles and Yale University. Together, their research spans many of the defining challenges facing business and society, from harnessing AI and strengthening financial systems to expanding healthcare access, improving decision-making and driving economic opportunity.
Meet Miami Business School’s New Tenure-Track Faculty
Pietro Ramella | Accounting
Pietro Ramella studies how companies communicate financial information to investors and how those disclosures influence financial markets. His research combines accounting, economics and empirical asset pricing with machine learning and natural language processing to better understand how businesses share information and how investors respond. Ramella earned his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and brings expertise in AI-enabled financial text analysis and quantitative finance.
Ximena Benavides | Business Law
Ximena Benavides examines how law, innovation and public policy influence access to healthcare and lifesaving medical treatments. Her research explores the intersection of health law, intellectual property, global health and political economy from both U.S. and international perspectives. Benavides earned her J.S.D. from Yale University and uses empirical research to address complex legal and public policy challenges.
Christina Qiu | Economics
Christina Qiu studies how digital technologies reshape economic opportunity, particularly in developing regions where institutions and markets are rapidly evolving. Her research focuses on development economics, digital payments and informal financial networks, helping explain how technology influences economic resilience and growth. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from Yale University after completing degrees at Harvard University and the University of Oxford, where she was a Clarendon Scholar.
Cindy Chung | Finance
Cindy Chung explores how banks, financial institutions and businesses manage liquidity and financial risk during periods of economic uncertainty. Her research combines macroeconomics and finance to better understand financial stability and the broader economy. Before earning her Ph.D. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Chung worked at Accenture and later conducted economic research at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Dario Laudati | Finance
Dario Laudati studies how financial institutions shape economic growth, financial stability and public policy. His research focuses on macrofinance, financial intermediation and the political economy of finance, helping explain how financial markets influence broader economic outcomes. Before joining the Miami Business School, he served as a postdoctoral research scholar at Columbia University and previously worked in management consulting and at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Andres Schneider | Finance
Andres Schneider's research examines the relationship between financial systems and long-term economic growth. His work in macroeconomics and finance explores the forces that shape markets, investment decisions and economic performance. Schneider earned his doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles, and strengthens the business school’s growing finance research community.
Alex Schulte | Health Management and Policy
Alex Schulte studies how healthcare organizations and public policy influence the quality, accessibility and delivery of healthcare. Using large-scale data and advanced statistical methods, her research examines how organizational decisions affect patient outcomes and healthcare systems. Before earning her Ph.D. in health policy from the University of California, Berkeley, Schulte worked as a management consultant at Deloitte.
Chao Qin | Management
Chao Qin develops artificial intelligence and machine learning methods that help organizations make better decisions in uncertain environments. His research spans reinforcement learning, causal inference, optimization and AI, with applications ranging from supply chains to digital platforms. Qin previously conducted research at Stanford Graduate School of Business and collaborated with organizations including Google DeepMind, Amazon AI, Adobe Research and Scale AI.
Hao Ding | Management Science
Hao Ding studies how organizations can use data, machine learning and causal inference to improve decision-making in healthcare, digital platforms and operations management. His research focuses on building smarter systems that increase efficiency while supporting socially responsible outcomes. Ding earned his doctorate from Emory University and brings expertise at the crossroads of analytics, AI and healthcare operations.
Haipeng (Allen) Chen | Marketing
Haipeng (Allen) Chen studies consumer decision-making, pricing strategy and marketing analytics. His research helps businesses better understand customer behavior and make more informed pricing decisions. Chen joins the Miami Business School as professor and chair of the Department of Marketing after establishing an internationally recognized research career. He also serves as an associate editor for two leading marketing journals and will become president of the Association for Consumer Research in 2027.
As these outstanding scholars begin their work at the University of Miami Business School, they bring expertise that strengthens the school's interdisciplinary research while creating new opportunities for students to engage with faculty tackling some of today's most pressing business and societal challenges.
