With nationally recognized student ensembles, Emmy and Grammy-winning faculty, and renowned visiting performers, the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami is a magnet for some of the best musical talent in the country.

Frost Music Live curates its season with an appreciation for the different cultures and modes of expression found in Miami. As a result, the Frost School’s performers showcase a breadth of talent and vibrant voices guaranteed to resonate with audiences as diverse as the city itself.

For the 2021-22 season, Frost Music Live is offering ’Canes alumni $5 off per ticket, for up to two tickets, for all concerts taking place in the Gusman Concert Hall. Swingin’ for the Holidays!—Stephen Guerra Big Band. The holiday spirit will come alive during this big band extravaganza. Arrangements include holiday classics and a brand-new sing-along. The band showcases a diverse tapestry of musical traditions from around the world. Frost professor Stephen Guerra’s Big Band is comprised of talented students and faculty from across the Studio Music and Jazz program. Alma: A Journey of the Soul through Music. Hailed by The New York Times as “a deft, smooth flute soloist,” Frost professor and acclaimed flutist Jennifer Grim will perform a repertoire comprised of the crème de la crème of Black composers, including award-winning composer and bandleader David Sandford; highly praised composer Jeffrey Mumford; and Tania León, Frost’s 2021 Distinguished Composer-in-Residence and 2021 Pulitzer Prize winner.

American Voices—Frost Symphonic Winds. The Frost Symphonic Winds will perform 20th and 21st century American composers, including Samuel Barber’s “Commando March,” written after he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II; John Barnes Chance’s “Elegy,” an emotional monument to a career cut short by a tragic death; and Vincent Persichetti’s “Symphony for Band,” considered a masterpiece of its genre. 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
