University of Miami Business School’s Dr. Indraneel Chakraborty, assistant professor of finance, has been named one of the “2018 Best 40 Under 40 Professors” by Poets&Quants, a website covering graduate business education news.
Just 38 years old, Prof. Chakraborty joined the UM faculty in 2015 after earning his Ph.D. in finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s in electrical engineering, computer science, from MIT. He also holds a B.Tech. in computer science, engineering, from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.
In addition to teaching on-campus students at UM, Prof. Chakraborty also teaches UOnline students in the Masters of Science in Finance program. He designed two new classes stemming from his experience as a financial professional working on Wall Street. “Student evaluations for these classes hover around 4.8 out of five points and they’ve been known to have helped students secure jobs at top investment banks,” reported Poets&Quants.
Prof. Chakraborty’s expertise and research interests include financial intermediation, corporate finance, and household finance. He has received numerous awards, grants, and media mentions in the business press including the Economist, Financial Times, and Reuters for his research and publications. He also holds six patents worldwide on Bluetooth wireless technology.
When asked, “What do you think makes you stand out as a professor?” by Poets&Quants, Prof. Chakraborty said, “I try to combine my research and my past Wall Street experience to create work-relevant classes. I try to continuously improve the material with new information and a better presentation.”
