Alumni trustee and immediate past president of the University of Miami Alumni Association, Brenda Yester Baty, was recently appointed as Chair of the Make-a-Wish of America National Board of Directors.

The Florida native and avid UM advocate is excited to take on the new role and responsibility, which she accepted after being voted in by peers. “Ten years from now, I want to look back on my time and see that we’ve attracted a broader, more diverse group of individuals to the mission,” she said. “I hope to recruit more volunteers, more donors, more employees and find more wish kids, to really evangelize our mission and everything that it stands for.”

Make-a-Wish America works to grant the wishes of eligible children with life-threatening, critical illnesses. The foundation’s greatest goal is to raise enough funds to grant every wish, and to find every eligible child who needs a wish granted. UHealth is a partner and helps refer children to Make-a-Wish.

Baty has spent the better part of the last two decades volunteering for the foundation both locally and nationally. The new position will follow the work she’s done on the Board of Directors for Make-a-Wish Southern Florida, where she helped to build its strategic plan for nine years.
