A Season Worth Talking About

Hurricanes Football has had an impressive 2017 season.
The U is Back!

The 10-game winning streak included upsets against FSU, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. ACC Coach of the Year, Mark Richt, and his team not only brought Miami back into mainstream conversation, they also revived the U’s signature swagger. The introduction of the quintessential Miami Turnover Chain would not have been quite as cool if we didn’t have a formidable defense, reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s, to back it up. The phenomenon swept the nation, sparking A-List celebrities to don the chain, including alumnus Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and power couple J-Rod.

College GameDay, along with a host of other ESPN elites, returned to Miami for the first time in a decade. The show, hosted poolside on our beautiful Coral Gables campus, had record viewership numbers, showcased our students body, alumni and die-hard fans.

But winning and swagger are not the only things that have returned to Miami this season. This season saw a slew of Hurricane alumni back on campus and on the sidelines, serving as honorary captains, cheering the team on, providing motivation and inspiring the young players: Ed Reed, B.L.A. '02, Michael Irvin, B.B.A. '88, Jon Beason, '06, Warren Sapp, '94, Ray Lewis, '95, Bryant McKinnie, '01, Jonathon Vilma, B.B.A. '04, Antrel Rolle, B.S.Ed. '05 and that’s just to name a few. “It’s amazing. Guys like that, that come back and give their knowledge and expertise and what they think we can do better, that’s why you come to UM,” said Jaquan Johnson.

Alas, the season isn’t over yet. With an ACC Championship on the line, no doubt Miami will muster up the drive they have had all season and bring their A-game against the Clemson Tigers in North Carolina on Saturday night.
