The University of Miami, in conjunction with GreekWeek, is calling out to all artists to join in on a Sebastian The Ibis themed hurricane art exhibition, “Last to Leave, First to Arrive.” The art show will be held on the Coral Gables campus at the University Center Lakeside Patio on Wednesday, February 21 and will raise funds for hurricane relief in the Florida Keys, Puerto Rico, and Caribbean Islands through the DirectRelief Charity.

With the focus of the show around the spirit of the Ibis, the organizers are looking for art submissions that artistically represent the community of Miami through the representation of the iconic bird, the Ibis. As legend has it, during a hurricane, the Ibis is the last to leave and the first to return when a storm hits. That resilience is the thread of the art show, bridging together ’Canes and the Miami community, along with those affected by the hurricanes.

Artists will receive a free t-shirt, publicity, a feature in the benefit's catalog, ability to sell additional work, and be selected as “Best In Show” by Sebastian The Ibis. The benefit is open to anyone impacted by Hurricane Irma or Maria. Submit any medium (painting, picture, sculpture or digital creation) of Sebastian The Ibis. Ibis art must be printed and framed or mounted professionally. Submit 5-10 pictures of other work to be featured in the event catalog. 100% of all Ibis art sales will go to the DirectRelief charity, catalog sales will be split 50/50 between the artist and DirectRelief. Submission deadline of your work is January 15, 2017.

Guidelines for art submission:

  • Size requirements: No larger than 30" x 40" and no smaller than 11" x 14"

  • Theme: Artists are encouraged to convey their interpretation of the University of Miami's iconic mascot, Sebastian the Ibis. Whether you decide to depict Sebastian in his classic regalia or alter his or her appearance, please keep an open mind in your creative process. All we ask is that an Ibis is included in your art submission.

  • Medium: One painting, framed photo, digital art, framed drawing, ceramic or sculpture that is either printed, framed or mounted professionally.
