University of Miami alumnus Andrew Bain, A.B. ’07, was appointed as a judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange County, Florida. Bain has been an assistant state attorney in the Ninth Circuit since 2013. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Nancy Clark.

“This appointment is something my ancestors could have only dreamed about,” Bain said. “It shows that their sacrifices were not in vain.”

A former Miami Hurricanes football player, Bain double-majored in psychology and African American studies at the University of Miami. He remembers his time there as one that reinforced hard work, dedication, and community.

Bain received his law degree from Florida A&M University College of Law.

“If my advice is worth hearing,” he shared, “I would tell students to let their hard work speak louder than anything their words could ever say. I would also tell them to not worry about who people think they are, but instead to have the assurance that God knows who they are and will be.”
