Toppel launches new project-sharing platform

It’s a common dilemma for new job seekers: potential employers require experience, yet the only way to gain that experience is to get a job. It can be hard to get that first opportunity, especially in these uncertain times.

With that in mind, the Toppel Career Center at the University of Miami has partnered with PeopleGrove to launch Bridges, the University's marketplace for connecting students and recent grads to real-world, experiential projects that benefit businesses.

Successful professionals and businesses can choose from a project template library or create their own projects, which students and recent graduates can then apply to complete. Sample projects include conducting user research for a new product, content marketing for a non-profit, supply chain data analysis, and more.

Guided pathways provide students and grads step-by-step direction for successfully completing projects.

What does a University of Miami project look like?

  • Short-term, virtual experiences: Opportunities should last 40–80 hours over the course of about 2–4 weeks.
  • Defined goals: Projects should have a concrete goal that can be completed in the set timeframe.
  • Mentorship: Beyond skill-building and completion of a professional task, University of Miami Projects are learning opportunities for students and recent grads, supported through your guided mentorship.
  • Stipend: Employers are encouraged to fund their company’s projects.
