Nominations open for the Roberta ‘Bosey’ Fulbright Foote Prize

By UM News
Established in 2017, the award recognizes a member of the University of Miami community who has made a meaningful contribution to the beauty of the campus.

The Office of the President is now accepting nominations for the Roberta “Bosey” Fulbright Foote Prize, which will be awarded during the University of Miami’s Earth Day celebration on April 22 to an individual or team who has made an enduring contribution to the beauty, humanity, and future of the UM campus.

UM students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, and donors are eligible for the award, which UM President Julio Frenk established in 2017 to honor and enhance the legacy of UM’s former first lady.

The wife of Edward T. “Tad” Foote II, who served as UM’s fourth president from 1981 through 2001, Bosey Foote is largely responsible for the lush Coral Gables campus widely known and loved today. While her husband devoted his energy to strengthening the University’s academic and financial future, she devoted hers to growing its natural beauty.

Individuals or teams may be nominated for the prize created in her honor for contributions that span any or all these categories:

Natural Campus Beautification, which recognizes outstanding efforts to enhance the natural beauty of outdoor spaces on UM campuses, ensure protection of natural landscapes, engage the University community in preserving the beauty of our open spaces, and instill pride in the campus environment.

Creation of Collaborative Space, which recognizes the efforts and activities of individuals or teams to enhance collaboration through the creation and/or creative utilization of physical spaces (indoor or outdoor) that enhance our sense of community and create ownership of shared spaces.

Supporting Environmental Sustainability, which recognizes individuals and/or teams that excel in implementing sustainability actions which improve the University environment, reduce waste, and move others to action to protect our natural resources.
