Do you want to expand your career network? Are you looking for guidance as you navigate your first job search? Are you a current student trying to find your footing, or an alum ready to help someone else find theirs?
Cane2Cane, the Toppel Career Center’s exclusive career networking platform, connects University of Miami alumni and students to explore career paths, prepare for their next move, and build meaningful professional relationships.
More than 3,500 alumni, faculty, and friends of the U have already joined the platform since its inception, alongside more than 3,500 students eager to connect.
As Cane2Cane continues to grow, the Toppel Career Center is working toward a goal of reaching 500 new mentors by May 31. Every new mentor expands the University’s network and creates more opportunities for students and alumni to gain guidance, make connections, and navigate their careers with confidence.
The platform features direct messaging, a personalized homepage, and the new Ask Anything feature, where students can submit questions about careers, interviews, and industries, and responses from relevant alumni land directly in their inbox.
When you join Cane2Cane as an alum, you build a profile that tells your story, not just where you’ve been, but how you got there, what you learned, and who helped along the way. From there, you can connect with fellow Canes across industries, cities, and career stages, whether you want to grow your network or share your experience with students who are just getting started.
Vanessa Castillo, B.S.C. ’12, entrepreneur, and founder of VCV Agency, joined as a mentor because she remembered what it felt like to need guidance. “I felt called to give back and support students who are figuring out their next steps, just like I once was,” she said. Her advice to fellow alumni: “Even small conversations can leave a lasting impression. If you’ve ever benefited from mentorship, this is a beautiful opportunity to pay it forward.”
Students like Harrison Wilmot, a rising junior majoring in broadcast journalism, feel the difference. “Having access to shared experiences, industry insights, and mentorship has been an invaluable resource in shaping my college journey,” he said. “Cane2Cane is a must-use resource for any student looking to grow beyond campus.”
