University of Miami (UM) students spend their spring breaks traveling or catching up on their studies.
A group of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) student chapter members opted to spend their week of in search of opportunities!
The group visited Embraer, a global aerospace company that produces commercial, military, executive and agricultural aircraft and provides aeronautical services, where they toured the executive jet facilities and interacted with both the consumer and engineering side of the aerospace process.
The students also met fellow engineers, including fellow UM College of Engineering alumnus Doug Christoph (BSASE ’14). Christopher is a product development engineer. In this position, he develops and approves repair dispositions for non-conformances on the assembly line in the interior of Phenom and Legacy executive jets.

The students also toured the Kennedy Space Center where they met with NASA engineers and learned about the projects they work on, ranging from cryogenics research to flight dynamics for the Boeing OFT.
The trip allowed students to experience what it is like to work at the frontier of science.
“The most exciting part of the trip was definitely the Friday night Delta IV rocket launch,” Hefley explains. “After some delays those on the trip stuck around and saw the rocket go up at 8 p.m.”
