Divya Bhansali (BSBME ’19), who is graduating this semester from the University of Miami College of Engineering, is heading to Columbia University to pursue a PhD in biomedical engineering. She received the distinguished Presidential Fellowship from the Columbia University Office of the Dean of Engineering, which recognizes notable incoming PhD students with a stipend and full-tuition for a minimum of four years. Bhansali will be starting her doctoral work with a rotation in Kam W. Leong’s Nanotherapeutics & STEM Cell Engineering Laboratory.
Bhansali, who also will graduate with a minor in chemistry, has consistently been listed on the President’s Honor Roll. She has been a presidential scholar, and is a member of both Tau Beti Pi and Alpha Eta Mu Beta. Bhansali also served as the president of two student organizations: the Engineering Student Council and the Engineers Without Borders University of Miami Chapter. She participated in summer research internships at numerous top ranked programs including MD Anderson Cancer Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center, as well as summer internships with the Florida International University and the Cleveland Clinic. Bhansali conducted an observership with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and was a research assistant in the Physiomimetic Microsystems Laboratory at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
