Erotokritos Skordilis, a PhD candidate in the College of Engineering’s Department of Industrial Engineering, participated in Amazon’s Sixth Annual Graduate Research Symposium held at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle from March 6-8.
Skordilis had the opportunity to share his research with senior Amazon researchers and other PhD student participants from some of the most famous universities in the United States and around the world, such as Harvard and Stanford, among others. “The research I presented ranged from advanced predictive analytics to sensor-based decision making with applications in data-driven state-space models for critical component degradation,” explains Skordilis.
Amazon’s research symposium included talk sessions in which Amazon scientists presented cutting-edge research conducted in various Amazon sections – such as Rekognition, Alexa artificial intelligence, Prime, DeepLens camera, and Go – as well as workshops that gave participants unique opportunities to get hands-on experience on modern tools developed by Amazon.
The symposium is hosted every year by the Amazon’s Graduate Research Recruiting Team and is an exclusive, invitation-only event created for future innovators within the machine learning space. Participants are given the opportunity to learn about the breadth of Amazon’s machine learning innovation efforts, as well as to share research and ideas with their peers and premier Amazon scientists.
Skordilis is currently working toward his PhD degree under the supervision of Ramin Moghaddass, assistant professor in the College of Engineering’s Department of Industrial Engineering.
