Why did you apply to be a student ambassador?
I applied to become a student ambassador because I thought it would be a great way to learn more about the University of Miami College of Engineering (CoE), meet new people, and showcase how great being a part of the “U” is!

What advice would you offer to new engineering students?
“Work hard now, play harder later.” Engineering is not the easiest of degrees to pursue. It requires time, dedication, and lots of effort, so make sure to hit the books hard — but don’t forget to enjoy your time in college. Make time for you to enjoy yourself!

What do you feel is unique about being a student at UM College of Engineering?
Having come to the University of Miami as a graduate student, I can say that the incredible networking and research opportunities the CoE has to offer makes it truly unique. Being able to see alumni and peers succeeding in industry and academia is something truly inspiring and exciting.

Describe what you are doing in this position.
As a CoE Student Ambassador I am a liaison for the College. I assist prospective students, current students, and alumni alike in learning about the more pressing and groundbreaking research, opportunities, and experiences to be had at the CoE.

What did you learn at CoE that has helped you in your position?
At the CoE I have learned how to become a stronger time manager, resilient, and resourceful individual which has helped me to succeed not only in my academic career, but my professional career.

Which College student organization stands out to you and why?
The organizations that the CoE is home to are the Biomedical Engineering Society, Association of Cuban-American Engineers and Data Analytics Student Association. All of these organizations offer incredible networking, education, and extracurricular opportunities to develop the student as an individual and as a professional.

What do you feel you are getting out of this position?
I feel that as an Engineering Student Ambassador I have the privilege to meet new prospective students, teach new students about all the wonderful opportunities the CoE has to offer, and meet engineering alumni who can offer highly insightful and inspiring advice.

Why has this been a good experience for you?
This has been a good experience for me because it has allowed me to meet fellow students and faculty who share the same passion for discovery, technology, and engineering as I do.

What did you do during your summer 2019 break?
I made the most of my free time and researched biomaterials and their properties to create a biomimetic meniscal scaffold under Drs. Andreopoulos, Jackson and Travascio!
