Name: Rachel Fracasso
Class: Junior

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Why did you apply to be a student ambassador?
I applied to be a student ambassador because as an incoming freshman at the University of Miami two years ago I really looked up to those in positions of guidance such as the engineering student ambassadors and they were extremely helpful in my transition here. I would now like to do the same and provide advice and support.

What advice would you offer to new engineering students?
I would advise new engineering students to stay on top of your work and always go to your professor for help; they are here to help you succeed! Also, be sure to establish connections with your peers as teamwork is key.

What do you feel is unique about being a student at UM College of Engineering?
I love how close the College of Engineering (CoE) is. No matter what major you are in the CoE, I have always felt like everyone is in “it” together and here to help and support each other. Also, I love that I can see familiar faces every day in small classes.

Describe what you are doing in this position.
As a student ambassador I am here to answer any questions that students entering the CoE may have and offer all of the advice and support that I can.

What did you learn at CoE that has helped you in your position?
At CoE, I have learned that the course work is difficult and you must put in continuous effort to succeed, however the hard work will pay off, and your professors and peers want to see you excel!

Which College student organization stands out to you and why?
Society of Women in Engineering (SWE) stands out to me because it is my favorite organization in the CoE—it is so inspiring to walk into a room full of other female engineers in a male dominated field.

What do you feel you are getting out of this position?
I feel like I will be inspired to work harder at the University of Miami by being able to mentor incoming engineers that are eager to succeed and do their best here.

What did you do during your summer 2019 break?
This summer, I was a tech counselor at a tech summer camp called iD Tech at UM. I taught video production using Adobe Premiere Pro.
