David T. Poole, Director of Admission at the University of Miami’s College of Engineering (CoE), has been selected to join the National Consortium of Secondary STEM Schools’ (NCSSS) Board of Directors.
“NCSSS is proud David has joined our Board of Directors,” said Todd Mann, executive director of NCSSS. “We value their leadership and dedication to STEM education and our STEM students.”
Poole says he is not only excited for the opportunity to serve the board over the next year, but also to provide important opportunities for influencing STEM educators from across the country to engage with each other.
“I look forward to work in collaboration with the other NCSSS Board members to continue the invaluable work that NCSSS has done for over 30 years to connect specialized STEM secondary schools, universities and industry partners to promote STEM education in our communities, as well as to lobby at the local and national level to find new funding and opportunities to enhance the education of tomorrows STEM leaders and innovators,” he says.
The NCSSS was established in 1988 to provide a forum for specialized secondary schools focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines to exchange information and program ideas. Celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2018, the Consortium now includes more than 100 member schools (high schools), many ‘ranked’ as the best in the country, along with 55 affiliate members (colleges, universities, summer programs, foundations, and corporations) located in 32 states, that share the goals of transforming mathematics, science, and technology education.
Poole has served as Director of Admission for the CoE since 2001 and is responsible for working with diverse populations of prospective undergraduate as well as graduate students from across the globe. During his career, he has sought to increase participation of under-represented minority groups in STEM fields as a career choice, and is deeply committed to the College’s focus on transforming lives through teaching, research, innovation and service.
