This year, the University of Miami’s chapter of the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE) earned first place in a national video competition hosted by the IISE.

The University of Miami College of Engineering’s (CoE) very own Tyler Brown, Mia Lama, Sabrina Perez and Vanessa Quezada won first place in the 2020 Industry Advisory Board YouTube Video Contest.

The group’s video, "What are you waiting for? Industrial Engineering,” competed against several other university IISE chapters’ from across the nation.

The IISE has been conducting the YouTube video contest, which is sponsored by the IISE Industry Advisory Board (IAB), since 2011. The submitted videos are to be between three and 10 minutes, and introduce the industrial and systems engineering profession to high school students, teachers and counselors.

The group’s heartfelt video, which brought them top honors with a grant for $1,000, encouraged women to study engineering at the CoE — whose 33% of female undergraduates is 13% higher than the national average — and other institutions. The video also promoted the field of industrial and systems engineering as a whole, examining the wide-range of roles industrial and systems engineers play across the world.
