Engineering Undergraduate Wins National Science Foundation REU Award

Isadora Smith, a junior in the University of Miami College of Engineering’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, won a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU) award to conduct research Sakhrat Khizroev’s, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, laboratory.

Her research, which is at the intersection of engineering and neuroscience, focuses on discovering novel nanoengineering approaches to wirelessly stimulate neurons deep in the brain. This study is supported through an NSF award, titled“Magnetoelectric Nanodevices for Wireless Repair of Neural Circuits Deep in the Brain.”
