Research and innovation take center stage

University researchers and students will display technological innovations during the 2024 eMerge Americas conference and expo this week.
University of Miami scientists and students displayed innovations and research developments during the 2023 eMerge Americas event.

eMerge Americas—the premier tech conference held annually in Miami—is set to return for its 10th year to the Miami Beach Convention Center, April 18-19. 

Business and technology leaders from around the globe will attend the annual conference, which attracts more than 20,000 attendees from 50 countries over the span of two days. 

As a Titanium Sponsor, the University of Miami is proud to showcase several technological innovations from researchers and students. Attendees will be able to listen to various keynote speakers, including Grammy Award-winning artist and entrepreneur Armando Christian Perez, also known as Pitbull, and founder of Girls Who Code, Reshma Saujani. 

On Friday, University experts will participate in a Main Stage panel discussion, moderated by University of Miami President Julio Frenk, on how medical research and emerging technologies are converging in South Florida to drive innovation and address the health impacts of climate change. 

Panelists include Pratim Biswas, dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Stephen Nimer, director of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Oscar de la Renta Endowed Chair in Cancer Research, and executive dean for research at the Miller School; and David C. Rhew, global chief medical officer at Microsoft.

In addition to the University’s tech showcase, attendees are invited to explore the Healthtech Innovation Hub, sponsored by UHealth – University of Miami Health System and Jackson Health System. Throughout the two-day conference, the Hub will highlight the intersection of technology and medicine, bringing life to the patient experience through interactive exhibits and thought-provoking content with UHealth doctors and researchers.
