The Scottsboro Boys, which brought home a whopping 12 nominations is directed by 5-time Tony® Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), which is a show based on the notorious "Scottsboro" case in the 1930s, in which 9 African-American men were unjustly accused of a terrible crime.
Joshua Henry (BM ‘06) began his career in Godspell, and quickly moved on to a role in the ensemble, and understudied the role of Benny, in an off-Broadway Tony Award-winning premiere run of In the Heights. He then played the role of Tin-Man in an Encores! summer run of The Wiz and appeared as Jennifer Hudson’s boyfriend in the first Sex and the City movie. He was then cast as an army man in Green Day’s rock opera, American Idiot, before landing his current role as Haywood Patterson in The Scottsboro Boys.
In an interview with BroadwayWorld.com, Henry describes his reaction by saying, “I woke up to work out and decided to take a peek. I went to bed really hoping that SCOTTSBORO BOYS would get nominated for Best Musical, but this is just amazing. And hearing my name among those eligible guys was so humbling and unbelievable. I'm on cloud nine right now.”
