Find “The Magic in U” at Homecoming & Alumni Weekend

Each year during the University of Miami’s Homecoming celebrations, thousands of ‘Canes from around the world flock to their alma mater to re-connect with former classmates, celebrate UM’s time-honored traditions, and cheer proudly at the Homecoming football game. Homecoming 2017 festivities are set to begin on Friday, October 27 and culminate the following Friday night, on Novmeber 3, with the beloved boat burning ceremony and fireworks leading into the weekend game against Virginia Tech.

The student-run Homecoming Executive Committee (HEC) and the Division of Student Affairs invite the UM community to gather along the wondrous shores of Lake Osceola for a magical night of fun and celebration of all things orange and green.

"Homecoming brings our community together in celebration of the history and traditions of the University of Miami,” said Josh Brandfon, HEC’s advisor and director of the Department of Student Activities and Student Organizations. “You are certain to leave Homecoming with amazing memories that will last a lifetime.”

This year’s homecoming theme, “The Magic in U,” highlights the University’s mystique and encourages students to uncover the many hidden and unique qualities of their beloved university. Throughout the week leading up to Friday night’s festivities, UM student organizations join together in friendly completion by performing skits, re-writing the words to the Alma Mater, and decorating an ornament for UM’s spirit tree, all meant to show their love for The U in creative and spirited ways.

“Every time I think about the scale of Homecoming and about the many people who will be touched by its events, I feel humbled that I get to be a part of the process,” said Laura Thornton, a senior studying marine science and chair of HEC. “I am so grateful for all those who come together to coordinate these events and for the chance I have to give back to my University community, which has changed my life forever."
