Job Opportunity: Graduate Assistant at the Office of Hemispheric and Global Affairs

The Office of Hemispheric and Global Affairs (OHGA) is looking for a graduate student to support the work of this office and the broader internationalization efforts of the University of Miami.

OHGA works across the University of Miami to ensure that its unique geographic position is fully leveraged. OHGA will expand UM’s international presence and relevance by promoting educational, research and healthcare opportunities, through engagements with institutions of higher education, businesses, non-governmental organizations, and governments.

The role of the Graduate Assistant position is to deliver support to the overall substantive and administrative work of the office.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide research that will support the communications of the office and the internationalization strategy of the University.
  2. Support the planning of weekly schedules and meeting briefing materials.  
  3. Assist in the creation and population of a University – wide database housing information on international activities.
  4. Liaise with offices across the University on coordinating meetings and events.
  5. Provide general logistical support for the Office’s operations.
  6. Research specific themes on international education and economics to support the creation of presentations for the Vice President of Hemispheric and Global Affairs and the Office Director.
  7. Clerical support for OHGA including file maintenance and organization of correspondence.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications desired

  1. Ideal candidates will have an interest or be studying in international affairs, economics, or another related discipline.
  2. Ability to conduct research on a wide variety of topics.
  3. Experience working in a professional office setting, including excellent interpersonal communication abilities.
  4. Excellent writing skills with a high attention to detail.
  5. Skill in prioritizing multiple time sensitive tasks.
  6. Proficiency in Spanish language preferred.

Hours and Compensation: 20 hours per week—monthly stipend $1800
