Master’s students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual research symposium next spring. The symposium will include a new networking session, in addition to the traditional keynote speaker, oral and poster presentations, as well as Ted-like talks that will be webcasted live from the University through an online conference platform to the virtual audience.
Due to the virtual conference format, this symposium will not include judging. The virtual format has also prompted some changes to the poster session. Presenters will now be grouped by topic/discipline within a virtual meeting room, where they will explain their research and either display a printed poster on-screen from their location of choice (e.g. home, office) or share their screen to display a single PowerPoint slide of their poster. Presenters who chose the printed poster option but are not able to secure funds from their department for poster printing costs may request Graduate School funds for this purpose (details will be provided upon acceptance of your abstract).
“Things will look a little different with the virtual format, but at the end of the day, we still wanted to provide students and postdocs the opportunity to showcase the transformational research they contribute to our University. We felt it was imperative to continue providing such a valuable professional development opportunity, where students and postdocs can practice presentation skills and network with other scholars,” stated Dr. Tiffany Plantan, Director of Education at the Graduate School.
All graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is February 8, 2021. Abstract submission and advisor/mentor approval are required to apply.
