The University of Miami Information Technology department is participating in a national annual campaign to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. A collaborative effort between government, industry, and education, the campaign’s goal is to ensure that every United States resident has the resources needed to stay safe and secure online.
The campaign—Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.—helps empower individuals to own their role in protecting cyberspace. Be certain of your safety by doing the following.
- Know how to avoid scam/phishing emails.
- Secure confidential data by using a virtual private network, or VPN.
- Protect access points with strong passwords.
- Install software and app updates when they become available.
