Teammates Nam Tran-Hoang, Tram Nguyen, Petra Sobotova, and Tahzeeb Rashid virtually competed out of New York City against 12 other teams of students, hailing from across the globe, including Toronto, Hungary, Russia, Egypt, and Chicago.
The UM team successfully completed the regional challenges by analyzing the classic case “Long Term Capital.” In addition to a written report, the team presented to a panel of judges and created simulated trading strategies using the MATLAB product suite, which simulates trades of funds.
Team captain, Nam Tran-Hoang explained the value of competing, “We grew closer as a team, and through this shared experience, we gained more confidence. It was also a great networking opportunity. It was an honor to represent Miami Herbert Business School in the competition.”
Fifty-eight teams and 219 students globally competed over several months for $10,000.
Ginger Baxter, director of career services for specialized masters, and Joe Gomez, MSF career coach, along faculty members Lorenzo Naranjo, Mark Shapiro and Joshua Espinosa, mentored the team throughout the four-month competition.
