U-SoA Hosts the FIRST IMS Symposium in the US

The University of Miami School of Architecture was proud to host the first IMS Symposium in the United States (and 7th International Textile Architecture Symposium) in May 2018. IMS e.V. Archineer® Institute (Institute at Anhalt University Dessau-Rosslau), in Germany, organized this conference, focused on the planning, design, and increasingly frequent inclusion of high‐tech membrane structures within the modern architecture, and the rising importance and popularity of this global industry.

The Symposium was a didactic and academic event uniting the seasoned experience of great professionals who offered master lectures on Tensile Architecture. This was a unique opportunity to interact with and meet a large number of professionals, students and craftsmen currently involved in the industry and the world of Membrane or Tensile Structures. Consequently, this provided a special chance for industry pioneers to collaborate on a personal and corporate level improving professional and commercial relationships within the industry. In cooperation with representatives, partners and other institutions, IMS worldwide is continuously organizing symposia, workshops and seminars focusing on the development of the membrane structure industry.

Participants in the event shared their expertise and experiences regarding research and education in relation to the fields of membrane and lightweight structures.

In previous years, these international efforts have taken place in countries such as Germany, Spain, Turkey, Iran, Panama and Peru.

U-SoA hopes to continue collaborative efforts with this prestigious international partner.
