Marianne Mijares appointed Executive Director of Commencement and Special Projects

Marianne Mijares, who presently serves as the Director of Corporate Relations and Events for the Frost School of Music, will begin her role as Executive Director of Commencement and Special Projects for the Division of Student Affairs starting June 15.

A message from Dr. Patricia A. Whitely, Vice President for Student Affairs:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of the new Executive Director of Commencement and Special Projects, Marianne Mijares, effective July 15, 2019.

Marianne began her professional relationship with the University of Miami Frost School of Music in 2005. During her latest role as the Director of Corporate Relations and Events, she has successfully coordinated and executed over 500 live performances She was responsible for producing high-profile events as well as the Frost Music Live Signature Series (formally known as Festival Miami) featuring GRAMMY®, Emmy®, and Tony Award® winning and nominated guest artists, such as Jimmy Buffett, Gloria Estefan, Joshua Bell, Edgar Meyer, Renée Fleming, Steve Miller, and others. Marianne has extensive experience in artist relations, event logistics, and communications and marketing, having produced events in Carnegie Hall, the Adrienne Arsht Center, and Watsco Center as well as international conferences in Guatemala and St. Lucia.  

She earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies in 2009 and a Bachelor of Science in Communication in 2004 from the University of Miami. 

In addition to her work on campus, Marianne is highly involved within the local Miami community and belongs to various organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Women in Music, The Latin Recording Academy®, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).  She was recently re-elected as Secretary for the Recording Academy® Florida Chapter where she has served since 2013. Marianne currently sits on the Executive Board for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Leadership Miami program and the Florida Guitar Foundation.

I also want to thank the selection committee and especially the chair, Dr. Nicholas Rau, for their dedication throughout the search process. 

Please join me in congratulating Marianne Mijares as she transitions from the Frost School of Music to the Division of Student Affairs. Marianne will bring strong connections across campus, professional production expertise, and excellent administrative skills. I am confident that, with Ashley, she will make an impact on the lives of our students and the University.
