Unique Venues has announced the winners of its 2020 Best Of Awards, recognizing the standout campuses, conference and business centers, sports arenas, historical and cultural venues, camps and retreat centers, and other special event venues that wowed guests this year. More than 20,000 planners that regularly use Unique Venues’ services to connect to non-traditional spaces voted in 22 total categories.
The University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., is proud to announce it took home the special Best Of Award for Best Renovation/Addition. Completed in May 2020, the 12-acre Lakeside Village showcases 25 interconnected, eco-friendly buildings that can provide suite and apartment-style housing for 1,115 summer conference attendees and interns on the Coral Gables campus. With its modern living amenities and flexible, integrated learning and event spaces, Lakeside Village has redefined what it means to live and learn at the University of Miami.
The site fronts Lake Osceola and is filled with a lush, native tropical garden. Unlike a traditional campus housing facility, the village includes active indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate engagement among all of its conference guests. The design eliminates vehicular traffic, and pathways are placed into the landscape and building layouts, creating a natural pedestrian circulation as it meanders through the breezy, naturally lit communal spaces—much of it sheltered from the weather. With five floors dedicated to housing, Lakeside Village offers a wide range of room layouts and modern finish levels, allowing guests to select from a variety of living environments. Each residential space has access to at least one bathroom, and depending on style, a full kitchen or kitchenette, and are equipped with in-unit washers and dryers or residents have access to free laundry facilities on every floor.
Lakeside Village at the University of Miami is a vibrant and lively space at the epicenter of the University of Miami and is ideal for academic and cultural interactions on campus.
