With last year’s unprecedented start to the academic year, the Division of Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education invite current second-year students to attend Year 2 at The U, a special lineup of programming designed to enhance their unique transition to campus.

“There is no doubt that all students faced enormous challenges last year, many that still persist today,” said Patricia A. Whitely, senior vice president for student affairs. “But especially for students who began their time as Hurricanes last fall or spring, we wanted to design a program that helps them re-connect with the many valuable programs, services, and resources available on campus.”

The program begins on Monday, Sept. 13, and the full schedule of events is listed on the Year 2 at The U website. Below is a summary of what to expect:

  • Held each Monday from Sept. 13 to Oct. 4, a weekly speaker series will feature faculty, staff, and student panelists who will share insights on how to be successful at The U.
  • The ever-popular Pancakes with Pat and Donuts with Duerk will help students connect with University administrators.
  • Special events like Outdoor Adventures Night and Toppel Tuesdays will re-introduce students to campus departments.
  • Traditional campus programming like ’Canes for a Change Week, Patio Jams, and free movie screenings will allow students to connect with their peers in a social setting.

Above all, these experiences were specially developed with one goal in mind: student success.

“When students feel connected to campus and take advantage of the opportunities offered to them, they are more likely to succeed both in and out of the classroom,” said Maria Galli Stampino, dean of undergraduate affairs. “Since we know that last year’s incoming students faced a unique set of circumstances during their transition to college, Year 2 at The U programming is full of valuable insights and experiences.”

In addition to Year 2 at The U programming, second-year students are also encouraged to complete the Sophomore Bucket List, which is filled with essential University experiences integral to student success.
