“All About the Boo” brings Halloween-themed events to campus this week and continues the work of Hurricane Productions to build community through student entertainment

From game show take-offs and guest speakers to signature Patio Jams concerts and weekly film showings, Hurricane Productions and its seven student-led sub-committees bring campus programming to life and provide activities for students of all interests and backgrounds.

“HP is truly a place where everyone is welcome. Our members are so passionate about what they do it makes every event an awesome experience for everyone involved,” says Megan Valcq, a senior and the chair of Hurricane Productions.

Hosting more than 75 events just this semester and planning to bring a total of 200, members of Hurricane Productions prioritize social involvement through innovative event planning. Organized through its various committees that focus on specialized events, HP ensures students enjoy campus life safely at no cost.

HP’s committees include:

  • ’Canes Night Live offers late-night and weekend programming
  • Canestage Theatre Company hosts theater shows and other performing arts for the campus community
  • Cinematic Arts Commission hosts weekly film screenings
  • Concerts committee plans and hosts large-venue concerts for students
  • Daytime and Special Events brings unique and imaginative programming to campus
  • Patio Jams coordinates weekly concerts at the SCC Lakeside Patio Stage
  • Rathskeller Advisory Board brings weekly events to the Rathskeller

“This organization is a place where you can be unconditionally you and strives to create a space where fellow ‘Canes can do the same,” said Kat Jenkins, HP’s vice-chair.

The newest initiative of HP includes a week of Halloween-themed programming named “All About the Boo.” Incorporating the work of several committees and a total of ten events from Tuesday, Oct. 26 to Saturday, Oct. 30, HP is preparing to offer a safe, fun way for students to enjoy Halloween from the comfort of campus. The event kicks off with “Spooky Trivia” on Tuesday at the Rathskeller and concludes with a screening of “A Quiet Place 2” on Saturday at the Lakeside Village Auditorium.

Tuesday, Oct. 26

  • Spooky Trivia at 7 p.m. at the Rathskeller

Wednesday, Oct. 27

  • Rat Spooktacular from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Rathskeller
  • Moonlight Jams from 6 - 7:30 p.m. on the SCC Lakeside Patio Stage
  • “A Quiet Place 2” at 9 p.m. at the Lakeside Village Auditorium

Thursday, Oct. 28

  • Trick-or-Tunes from 12:30 - 1:15 p.m. on the SCC Lakeside Patio Stage
  • DJ Thursdays from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Rathskeller
  • "Rocky Horror Picture Show" from 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. at Lakeside Village Auditorium

Friday, Oct. 29

  • ’Canes Night Live: Halloween Town from 8 - 11 p.m. at the Shalala Student Center
  • "Rocky Horror Picture Show" from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the SC Grand Ballroom

Saturday, Oct. 30

  • “A Quiet Place 2” at 9 p.m. at the Lakeside Village Auditorium

All students are welcome to join HP, and membership involvement can range from simply attending HP general body meetings to working closely with committees to pitch ideas for upcoming programming. Students interested can apply here
